Wheeeeeeeeeeeee! Long weekend, I can feel ya comin'. And ya can't come none too soon.
This four day work week has seemed long and arduous for some reason, and I want OUT.
I really want to hop in my car and just drive someplace and get outa dodge for a couple days, and I think I might try. Screw the price o' gas. It's high, but my little Corolla gets sweet mileage. I might drive out to Starved Rock---been there once before---cute little resort in the boondocks a few hours west of the city. Hell, even if it only turns out to be a day trip it's better than nothing.
There is some sort of really loud bird flipping out all day long behind my office building. It is so loud we can all hear it through double paned windows that don't open and the constant hum of air conditioning. I keep trying to run to the window in hopes that I can spot what sort of bird it is---but no luck so far. I think it might actually be on or near the roof just out of my sight line. But if I had to make a guess, I would say it's one of those small hawks you sometimes see in the city, or one of those bright green monk parakeets that have taken up residence in urban centers across America.
Everyone has gone from the office except me, leaving early for the holiday weekend. I could leave now too if I wanted, but I have work to do, and it will not make it any easier on Monday morning if I cut and run today. Still, I may break outa here a bit before 5PM if I can. Every few minutes helps when you are chomping at the bit.
Man, I am getting sick of having all my possessions packed in boxes. Every time I want or need something, I realize it's packed away in a box which I may or may not be able to find. I have learned during this long period of waiting to move that I actually do use and value my personal belongings. I know they are just "things," but they are things that I use and enjoy. And so after work I will go out and buy a Frisbee so tonight I can walk over to the park with Tara and Keith and their freaking baby and toss a Frisbee around. I will
buy the dang Frisbee, even though I already own one, packed away inconveniently in a stupid box.
Then tomorrow, after most of the rest of Chicago has already left town, I will get in my car and see where the road takes me. Thankfully my car is not packed in a box, and I know right where it is. That alone is reason to celebrate.
Have a happy and safe 4th of July, all. See ya Monday.
